Naturist Activities - Get Involved!

In this section

Naturism is all about doing what comes naturally, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, right across the UK and whatever the weather!

UK Naturist Clubs, Swims and Beaches

Naturist clubs, sometimes called “Sun Clubs”, are dotted all around the country and the majority have been in existence for many decades. Some will have their own land, others hire swimming pools or leisure centres for regular sessions. Most are owned and operated by their members, which means that everyone can play their part in running them.

Each club is different and varies in the facilities it offers, but those with land will usually have well-tended grounds centred around a club house, with facilities such as a swimming pool, sports facilities, sauna, children’s play area, camping/holiday opportunities and social events, providing easy, safe and secure, relaxing and tranquil escapes from the rigours of daily life for thousands of naturists in the company of like-minded people.

Naturist Beaches

Many people discover naturism on a beach on holiday, but there are plenty of places around our beautiful coastline to stretch out on the sand and get an all-over tan.

Whilst it is perfectly legal to strip off on any beach, the law of the land works in such a way that all manner of legislation can be applied to the naked sunbather if complaints are received. Many naturists quietly minding their own business in an out of the way spot have suffered from this when discovered by a prudish member of the public.

However, nude use of some beaches has received the sanction of the landowner or local authority and those are therefore considered to be “official” beaches. Because of the official designation and the fact that warning signs are erected, naturists’ enjoyment should not be spoiled by anyone - and we can take action against any non-naturists who disturb us.

British Naturism works to ensure the survival of all official beaches and to receive official designation for others – one way to do this is to make good use of them.

Naturist Holidays

The sunshine holiday is often the highlight of the naturist year – and there are hundreds of places around the world to stay. There really is something for everyone - resorts range from the most luxury hotel accommodation, with top-notch facilities and acres of landscaped grounds, right down to the most basic campsite. There are holiday villages with shops, pools, restaurants and bars, entertainments and activities and a choice of accommodation types; cruising and sailing holidays; apartment complexes; self catering cottages; camping and caravanning sites; B&Bs; and Naturist clubs with facilities for the holidaymaker. Many are situated in superb locations, not only beautiful to look at, quiet and secluded, but also only a stone’s throw from tourist attractions.

Naturist holiday spots are indistinguishable from any other type of holiday location, well, other than the dress code. The community spirit that pervades in Naturism is very apparent at holiday venues. People are pleasant, relaxed and talk to each other.

Do you have to be naked all the time?
No. Obviously, the idea of a Naturist holiday is that you don’t need clothes and so if the weather is good enough, most people will be nude. However, before the sun gets hot you will often find people putting on a T-shirt or a sarong when they go to buy their morning croissant and many people like to dress up for evening meals. Some people prefer to wrap themselves in a towel when walking around. It’s all about personal choice and comfort. The one place where nudity is obligatory is in the swimming pool.

Naturist Events and Big Days Out

There are hundreds of Naturist activities throughout the year and all around the country. Details of the most important of these can be found in our Events Calendar; which includes details of all BN events, as well as many others run by local clubs and swims.

However within these there are some really key events which together form our Big Days Out calendar for the year. Some of these are restricted to BN members only, but others are open to everyone with an interest in Naturism. Visit our Big Days Out, YBN Events and national sports pages to find out more.
