Another fantastic weekend of naturist fun at AT!

After months of concern about whether the event would actually take place, the news of the ‘all-clear’ seemed to give everyone a boost and the attendance was again impressive, with BN members flocking to the North Staffordshire hotel and waterpark.
By now, everyone knows that this is very much a social occasion - a chance to let your hair down in trusted company while joining in an impressive schedule of events, or just relaxing in the bar or the water and watching the ‘youngsters’ splash around on the rides below you.
This year’s action ranged from physical activity such as aquaerobics, barerobics, zumba, tai chi, yoga and juggling to extreme silliness such as body-painting and more serious matters such as discussions about topics raised on the BN Members’ Community Forum, meetings of members from BN’s various regions, a vulnerable adults workshop, feedback on the ongoing three-year plan and workshops looking at how members should deal with the media.
It was great to see a good turnout by members of YBN (Young British Naturists), as well. YBN are becoming an increasingly prominent part of the naturist movement, running their own events as well as adding that extra something to our big national weekends; when you see their banner hanging from the ceiling at a BN event, you know fun won’t be far away!
There were events for the kids such as a fun hour and face-painting, a presentation by a tour guide from the National Brewing Centre at Burton-on-Trent (which is just a few miles away from AT), first-aid tuition, wargaming, photography, bar quizzes, bingo led by everyone’s favourite ‘caller’ in BN’s Yorkshire rep Clive Edwards, a spa session at the adjacent Alton Towers hotel, a holiday presentation by Peng Travel, a prize draw, a guided walk around Alton Towers (for which guests had to be clothed; this was probably wise as the November weather never seems to be ideal for a naked stroll around the grounds!) and even an act of worship. You’d be hard pushed to be bored over these three days.
This weekend is known for going right across the spectrum of naturist interests. There were workshops on naturism and some interesting chat across the dining table, including a discussion on whether visitors should be naked for the whole weekend, or cover up with sarongs and the like when they wished; That good old naturist philosophy, ‘Live and let live,’ seemed to be the answer!
Meanwhile, plenty of people enjoyed letting their hair down for the traditional Saturday evening entertainment of Jim Russell’s naked disco, or while listening to the music of Trident during the Friday evening. It was marvellous to see Trident again. They enjoyed their trip to our 2010 weekend so much that they wanted to come back and they were as delighted to see hundreds of BN members again as we were to see them.
The weekend ended on a high note for many with a Christian service of worship. Some naturists chose to remain clothed but for the most part, those who attended were naked and at one with their faith. This service is becoming a traditional ending to BN’s big events and, as with everything on the programme, it wouldn’t happen without the volunteers who get involved.
