The British Naturism National Convention 2012

Ilam Hall Youth Hostel: Friday 27 – Sunday 29 April 2012

Day visits now possible!

Ilam Hall Youth Hostel is a spectacular early 18th Century National Trust mansion in a magnificent setting in the Peak District in Derbyshire. It can take a maximum of 118 guests and has plenty of room for the workshops, presentations, training and “how-to” sessions and break-out groups that will be the focus of the weekend.

There will be social events and some activities outside the “classroom” items, too. A full timetable will be published nearer the time. The hostel has a full restaurant and bar. We will have exclusive use and nudity will be permitted anywhere in the building, anytime. Unfortunately, as the grounds are owned by the National Trust and open to the public, guests must be dressed outside. The event will begin on Friday evening and run until early Sunday afternoon.

What is the British Naturism National Convention?
The first British Naturism National Convention, or NatConv, is a conference and training weekend for everyone in the community – clubs and swims, regions and individual members. It will replace the existing annual clubs and regions meetings. We hope that people will see it as something “different” they can do with their interest in naturism and come away having learned something and – we hope – be inspired to get more involved in BN’s work. It’s a chance for us to impart information and give updates and advice, hear feedback, talk about Campaigning and the threats we face etc. and for delegates to share and network. We have a lot of experience of running workshops and presentations at our bigger events and they are always popular. We’re taking it to the next logical stage and adding more practical sessions to broaden the number of members equipped to help make a difference to naturism in the UK. It will also be lots of fun and a great chance to mix with like-minded people in a fantastic location.

How much does it cost?
The cost is £75 per person for the weekend – that’s two nights accommodation and all meals. Being a youth hostel, the accommodation is in shared rooms with between 4 and 8 beds – though many have en-suite facilities. We’ll do our best to put you in a room of your choice, but it will be largely first-come, first-served. Dietary requirements can be catered for – please mention this when booking. It is not possible to pay for accommodation only – the rate we have agreed is significantly less than individuals would be charged because of the catering arrangements.

Update 6.4.12 - day visits now possible:

Non-residential - £60 per person. Attend the whole weekend, but stay elsewhere

Saturday only - £45 per person. Attend during Saturday daytime only.

How do I book?
Tickets are available from the BN office, who will also answer queries. You can also book online via the BN shop. The event is for BN members only, though non-members representing a club can attend, but must provide confirmation of that appointment.

In particular when do the formal events start and when does the last event finish?
Given that information we can then arrange travel.

Den Not wanting to pedantic here but I think you'll find that unless the postcode areas have changed in the last 30 mins Ilam Hall, Ilam, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 2AZ is in Derbyshire.

Ilam is in Staffordshire. The county boundary is the River Dove which is mile or so to the east. Postal address county is not necessarily the county that the place is in, it is the county of the post town. (just checked with recently retired subpostmaster, my wife). We own property about 3 miles from Ilam and that, despite being in Staffordshire, has an Ashbourne, Derbyshire address.

22 Apr 2012 08:06 AM
And her aunt lives in Cumbria but has a Lancashire address.

22 Apr 2012 08:16 AM
And the county is not a valid part of the address. It is ignored when sorting unless the address is so garbled as to need human sorting.

Thank you Malcolm. I could not have put it better myself. I come from the REAL Newcastle - the one in Staffordshire - so correct geography is important to me, otherwise we get mixed up with t'other lot. As for REAL Lancashire, anything north of the Mersey is Lancashire until it meets Westmorland (as far as I'm concerned!)!

A really enjoyable and very worthwhile weekend. Thanks to all those who organised the event and made it happen and a big thanks to our hosts Ilam Hall for keeping us fed and watered throughout the weekend. Thank you to the Ilam Hall staff who ensured we all had a pleasant stay.

That opinion is shared by the organisers. We had a quick review afterwards. Thank you everyone for coming and the discussion, feedback, suggestions and planning towards the future was excellent.

It will take a bit of time to build on it all, it can't all be put into effect instantly, but the follow up is under way.
