The 2013 BN Members Holiday to El Portus attracted 28 members, with most staying for the week from April 13-20. Throughout the week, the weather was fantastic, though a little chilly during the hours of darkness and although there was fog on some mornings, it soon burned off to reveal the perfect weather for another glorious day on the beach, or just lazing on the lawns next to the pool.
On Sunday, the first full day, we had a welcome meeting attended by Aurelio, the director of the site. This was accompanied with liberal amounts of wine, sangria and beer with tapas nibbles.
Our activities through the week, apart from lazing in the sun, pool or sea included a vist to a tapas restaurant on Tuesday evening. For 25 euros, we had something like an eight-course meal with a continuous supply of wine, beer or sangria.
On Thursday, most of us took a break from constant sunshine and hit the streets of nearby Cartagena where we visited the ancient castle with its panoramic views and an excellent guided tour. This was followed by a meal at a very popular fish restaurant, which is tucked away in the harbour area and frequented mainly by locals. The meal was salad with platters of various fried fish and again jugs of beer, wine and sangria, which set everyone back the princely sum of seven euros – including the tip. We then had a 40-minute tour of the harbour by boat, again with a continuous commentary giving us the background to the rich history of the area. After all that, it was back to the resort, kit off, and still a couple of hours to spend in the glorious sunshine.
On the Friday evening, we had a dinner party in the restaurant. By the end of the week, everybody knew everybody else so a great time was had by all. Anybody wanting a second bite of the cherry this year will be able to attend another group holiday in the autumn; on this occasion, it is not restricted to just BN members.
Unfortunately, prior commitments prevent me from joining them but, as far as I understand, there is already quite a large contingent of people booked for the holiday which runs between September 21 and October 5. You need to stay for a minimum of seven nights to qualify for the special group rates. Further details can be found
The benefit of an organised holiday is that it attracts like-minded people who readily interact with other guests. People who have never been on a Naturist holiday and who are very nervous about joining one, find they easily mix with everyone else and strong friendships are forged.
