Event details

Organisers of Bristol’s World Naked Bike Ride have announced that this year’s event will happen on  Sunday 4 June.

Last year over 200 riders took part, and the event completely overshadowed a far-right protest coincidentally happening the same day.

The ride is an annual celebration of bikes, body power and low carbon living. Organiser Will Bryson said ‘We’re demanding safer, easier cycling so Bristol can be less  dependent on polluting, road-clogging cars.’

The event is one of around twenty similar rides across the UK, and many more globally. Riders aim to raise awareness in a fun and thought-provoking way of the effects of the polluting vehicles that dominate our urban spaces.

Full nudity is optional - the dress code is ‘as bare as you dare’ - but many riders opt for the full monty.  Many paint slogans or decorations on their bodies, such as ‘Burn fat not oil’ or ‘Less gas more ass’.

Ride organisers say they expect 200-250 cyclists to strip off for the 7 mile cycle through Bristol city centre.

The ride is planned to avoid any of Bristol’s steep hills, and will be adapted if necessary in response to roadworks or other circumstances.

The ride should take about 2 hours.

For several years, Bristol’s World Naked Bike Ride has used the appropriately-named Full Moon pub as the start and end point. Riders will be able to gather at the Full Moon for up to an hour before the start of the ride to make use of a screened-off changing and body-painting area.

At the moment, the event’s start time is unconfirmed. Organisers recommend riders check the latest details by searching Facebook or Twitter for ‘bristolwnbr’.

Organisers said, ‘It’s free to take part, so please come and join us in a celebration of cycling. You can  help to highlight the vulnerability of cyclists on our crowded roads and deliver a peaceful yet powerful  demonstration against car and oil dependency.’
