Leave your clothes behind and feel the breeze on your skin as you raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.

The Naked Heart Walks are organised by British Naturism to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. All Naked Heart Walkers will receive:

  • A BHF medal at the end of the walk
  • A fundraising pack and regular emails to keep you on track
  • Full support from the British Heart Foundation to help you reach your target

The Secret Nuclear Bunker is a historical underground monument built to accommodate 600 people over three floors where the Government and BBC would have been housed in the event of Nuclear War.

The walk will begin at 5pm (do not arrive prior to this time) and the site will close at 9.30pm. Free parking is available onsite, walkers will be asked to leave clothes and personal belongings in their cars. The Secret Nuclear Bunker will be closed to the general public and only those registered for the walk or as a supporter will be allowed on site.

Your registration fee includes entry to the bunker, take a look around this unique place and learn about its place in British history. For £10 you can add on the evening meal.

Heart and circulatory diseases are the world’s biggest killers, and they can affect any of us, including you. But thanks to the research the British Heart Foundation is funding, there is hope. By backing the brightest scientific minds, we have the power to find treatments and cures that could make the difference between your parents living to old age or not, your friend making it to graduation or not, your sister being a phone call away or not.

This event is a bold one, just like our ambition to fund the science that keeps millions of hearts beating. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for signing up for the Naked Heart Walk and fundraising.

Sponsorship pack information can be downloaded here.

How to Find Us

The Secret Nuclear Bunker, near Brentwood, Essex.

Travelling by car is the best option. Entry is from the A128 (CM15 0LA) about 4 miles north of Brentwood. There are plenty of road signs giving advance warning, but the entrance will suddenly appear between hedges and with no convenient turning point for some time. Once off the road follow a private track to the car park.

On Arrival

Do not arrive before 5pm and do not disrobe until instructed to do so. Report to the “Check-In” desk staffed by British Heart Foundation with your ticket and sponsorship details. You can lock valuables in your car (at your own risk).

The Walk

The walk is a maximum 2 miles (with an optional shortcut part way around) over secluded undulating fields, some with crops. These are private agricultural grounds so there are no smooth footpaths like you might expect in a public park. Please wear sturdy walking boots and bring water. There will be a Safety Briefing in the Car Park at 6pm. The walk will set off as a single group led by a Walk Leader at the front and a Steward at the back as the group will spread out. If you are feeling unwell on the walk then you must let one of the Stewards know. You cannot complete the walk by yourself. Plan B In the event of torrential rain, the fields will be unsafe (and unpleasant) and so a decision will be announced at 6pm on whether to proceed. If not, then we will reassemble in the Bunker for an extended tour and special presentation. This will not affect your ability to collect the sponsorship money on behalf of BHF.

Bunker Facilities

After check-in, your BN ticket will give you access to the Nuclear Bunker where you will find a cafe and toilets. Feel free to explore this fascinating historical monument. The temp in the bunker is a constant 60o F throughout.

If you have not booked a meal the canteen and restaurant area will be out of bounds from 7.45pm. There is no telephone signal inside the bunker. There is disabled access including a chair lift.

Don’t get Lost The bunker is spread over 3 floors and was designed to hold 600 people with a labyrinth of corridors and rooms; it’s big. The staircase is the key. On the top floor is the canteen and toilets. The premises must be vacated by 9.30pm – when the bomb doors are closed and the lights go out!

The Meal

This is an ideal time to socialise and get refreshed for your journey home. The meal will be from 8pm in the restaurant and canteen area. Bottled wine, canned beer and other drinks can be bought in the canteen area – cash only. Don’t get Lost The bunker is spread over 3 floors and was designed to hold 600 people with a labyrinth of corridors and rooms; it’s big. The staircase is the key. You are welcome to socialise in the function room or revisit the bunker after the meal but the premises must be vacated by 9.30pm – when the bomb doors are closed and the lights go out!
