Cancellation of The Gathering 2020 Due to Proposed Company Voluntary Agreement of Hart Hotels Ltd.

We wanted to update you on the situation relating to The Gathering 2020, following a number of important developments over the last week.

We have been informed that by Hart Hotels Limited (the owners of the Glenmorag Hotel in Dunoon where The Gathering is held) that they feel unable to continue to operate their business and as such intend to enter into a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) under the terms of the Insolvency Act.  This is at least partly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have also become aware that the Glenmorag Hotel has been closed with immediate effect and has been placed on the market for sale by Hart Hotels Limited. As such, there is no prospect that The Gathering will go ahead as planned in September 2020 and that it is highly unlikely that we would be able to transfer the event to an alternative venue this year.

As such, we have no option but to cancel The Gathering in 2020.

We’re sure that you will be as disappointed as we are by this development. There’s no doubt that The Gathering has become a very special event in recent years, and we’re committed to finding a new home for the event in 2021.

We are also aware that many people will have paid either a deposit or a full balance to the Glenmorag Hotel for the event which will not now go ahead.

If you have made a payment in relation to this event, you should have received a communication from Johnston Carmichael, the insolvency practitioners appointed by Hart Hotels Limited. This describes the process that Hart Hotels Limited intend to follow and the consequences of this process for the recovery of any money that you might have paid for the event.

We suggest that you review this document and consider how you want to proceed. You may also wish to seek advice from a solicitor or from the Citizens Advice Bureau.

If you have not received this communication and have made a payment to the Glenmorag Hotel for the Gathering 2020 you should contact the Glasgow office of Johnston Carmichael (www.jcca.co.uk) quoting reference DMN/MPH/JSS/HART003.

You may also wish to consider your options under the relevant consumer protection legislation, specifically section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act for payments by credit card and the chargeback schemes operated by banks for payments by debit cards.

We cannot provide advice directly as to the action that you should take at this time, and this email is not intended to provide advice or recommend any course of action.

Many thanks for your support for The Gathering, and your understanding of this unfortunate development.
