We are living through a global pandemic that affects our minds rather than our bodies.  We have built a society that undermines self-belief and afflicts young people in particular with suicide being the third leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds.  There are good times and bad times which makes it even worse because somebody who cracks jokes in the pub might feel very differently behind their closed door.

Gracie joined us at the EveryBody festival as part of #TheNakedTruth campaign and shared some of her experiences as a young woman living today, giving us an insight into the challenges people face and some glimpses of light on where solutions might be found.

Naturism might not be the solution to the world’s problems, but poor body image certainly contributes to poor mental health and escaping into nature and into nudity can provide moments of relief.

Be mindful of those around you, they probably need more help than you realise and can offer support in return.

Unfortunately I have known several people that have committed suicide in my lifetime and they hide their troubles so well that they haven't given any indication of them, and I am left thinking there must have been some indication of their troubled mind but no cry for help to their friends was forthcoming. This shouldn't be a day but every day.

I would prefer somebody phone me up in the early hours of the morning saying they needed to talk than receive a call saying they have taken their own life

As someone who has worked in mental health services until recently it is always sad when you see someone at their lowest point.

unfortunately most people suffer in silence and when they reach out they find that services are often lacking in their time if need.

we need to look after each other any way we can and be aware of or own mental health to try and reduce these sad sad things from happening

This is a worthy point of focus for naturism. Being in nature, the open air and sunshine have clear benefits for raised mood. Moreover, and even more importantly, the social aspect is a great remedy for loneliness. One only has to take in the vibe at BN events to see the benefit. Individual clubs carry on the benefits all year round, even the online BN events help many keep in touch. It's a positive advantage that illustrates the benefits of being part of a community and BN as well, as opposed to the solitary practice of naturism. It is something clubs and BN have to offer. You never know how you might have helped someone with a friendly chat.
