Do you say 'lee-do', or 'lie-do'? I'm never sure, but it doesn't really matter, the important thing here is the 'Peterborough' part - BN will be hosting an evening again at this stunning outdoor pool this summer! It takes place on Saturday 5 July and tickets are on sale now. Find out all the details including how to book!
'Can you help Shaftesbury Lido?', we asked back in February. Well you (and others) did! Shaftesbury Lido is over 100 years old and the town council have been hosting their own nude swims since 2023. A lot of pools never survived lockdown so a council-run pool supportive of Naturism is something to cherish. They wanted to fund a new filtration system and a new pool liner, and launched the crowdfunding scheme to help with the (huge) cost. The Friends of Shaftesbury Swimming have launched a crowdfunding page. “Sports England” promised to donate £15,000 provided the Council and the Friends can match the amount. Success! The fund topped £30,000! The renovations got underway, but – as often happens – the contractors hit a couple of snags that delayed the filling of the pool, and therefore the opening until late May. If you are in the area, this is a great weekly swim to support!
As Mental Health Awareness Week draws to a close, it's the perfect time to reflect on some hopeful news: there is growing evidence that Naturism can significantly benefit mental health. Academic studies have shown that even short periods spent naked in the company of others can lead to improved body appreciation and reduced social anxiety. Those who participate in Naturism regularly report long-term improvements in body image, greater self-acceptance, and higher self-esteem. Why does it work? Because Naturism offers a break from the pressure to look a certain way. It strips back expectations, quite literally, and creates an environment where people are free to simply be themselves. And in doing so, it builds community, fosters connection, and reminds us that we are enough, exactly as we are. Of course, Naturism won’t solve every problem overnight. But it can make things a little better. And over time, those “little better” moments add up. They build resilience, self-worth, and a more positive outlook. Naturism is free, it’s accessible, and it’s easier to try than you might think. Whether it’s joining a local clothes-optional walk, attending an event, or even just taking a moment to enjoy nature without barriers, it’s a small step that could change how you feel in a big way. So why not give Naturism a try this year? By Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, you might just find you’re feeling more confident, more grounded, and more you.

As we continue through Mental Health Awareness Week, today we turn our focus to an issue that touches almost everyone at some point: body acceptance. The pressures we face around body image are staggering. Recent studies show that 28% of young people have been exposed to online content promoting eating disorders. Social media, influencers, and advertising flood our screens with a stream of idealised, often heavily edited images, constantly pushing the message that we need to look a certain way to be accepted or worthy. That message is not just untrue, it's actively harmful. The truth is, your body is amazing. It gets you through your day. It lets you meet your friends, enjoy your passions, and experience the world. And most importantly, it belongs to you, not to an algorithm, a marketing trend, or an airbrushed stereotype. One of the most profound aspects of Naturism is that it helps people unlearn these toxic expectations. At a Naturist event, you quickly realise that the so-called "ideal" body simply doesn’t exist. Everyone has scars. Everyone has stretch marks, body hair, and softness in places the internet tells us we shouldn’t. And yet, in that environment, you’ll likely feel more accepted, and more normal, than you have in years. Naturism invites you to see your body through a kinder lens, not because you're being told to love it, but because you're surrounded by people who are simply living in theirs. It's not about showing off, it's about showing up exactly as you are. So if you've ever struggled with body image, and most of us have, consider attending a Naturist event. It might feel like a big step, but it’s one that can be incredibly healing. You might just discover that your body is not the problem, the expectations are. Let’s keep working toward a world where everyone feels at home in their own skin.
As we observe Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the simple, powerful things that can boost our wellbeing. One clue is right there in the word Naturism itself: nature. We’ve long known that spending time in nature improves our mental health. The sights, sounds, and rhythms of the natural world help ground us, calm our nervous systems, and lift our spirits. But Naturists have discovered that being in nature without clothes can deepen that connection even further. There’s something truly freeing and healing about feeling the sun, breeze, or water directly on your skin. It’s not just symbolic; it’s a return to a more natural state, where we can feel at one with the planet and, often, with ourselves. If you’re feeling low, consider stepping outside, and if you can, find a safe place to leave your clothes behind and really connect. It might feel unusual at first, but for many, it’s a powerful and transformative way to relieve stress, quiet the mind, and rediscover joy. Believe me, it helps.

As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, today we confront some of the more disturbing statistics around young people and self-harm, numbers that highlight the urgent need for compassionate action and greater awareness. Recent figures reveal that 35% of young people have encountered suicide or self-harm content online. Even more shockingly, one in five young people report having self-harmed. These are not just numbers, they represent real individuals, many of whom are struggling to cope with overwhelming emotions, unresolved trauma, or mental health challenges that remain largely unseen. Self-harm is, for many, a way to deal with unbearable feelings, a physical expression of mental pain. It can be an attempt to make the invisible distress visible, to feel something when everything feels numb, or to regain a sense of control when life feels out of it. But this is not, and must never become, an acceptable reality in our society. We all have a role to play in challenging this crisis. Being present, checking in with friends and loved ones, and listening without judgment can go a long way. Yet it’s also important to remember that supporting someone who is self-harming requires sensitivity and care. A high-handed or overly directive response can do more harm than good. Thankfully, there are excellent resources available. MIND and the Mental Health Foundation both offer practical, compassionate guidance on how to support someone who is self-harming, from how to start the conversation, to understanding the underlying reasons, to helping them find professional support. We encourage everyone to take time this week to read and share those resources. Mental Health Awareness Week is not just about raising awareness, it’s about building communities where people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to ask for help. Let’s make sure that no one has to suffer in silence.
This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, and the theme for 2025 is one that speaks to the heart of wellbeing: “community". Poor mental health is now the largest single contributor to ill-health in the UK, and the strength of our communities plays a vital role in addressing it. Thriving, supportive communities are known to protect and promote good mental health — but in recent years, poverty and inequality have steadily eroded the fabric of many such communities. As Naturists, we know we can’t fix the global economy. But we can do our part to challenge inequality and build inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued. Naturism offers a unique model of community, one in which status, background, or identity simply don’t define you. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is equal. That radical sense of inclusion is one reason why, time and again, minority communities who have faced exclusion or persecution are more strongly represented at Naturist events than in the general population. They come because they find something in Naturism they don’t often find elsewhere: a genuine, judgement-free welcome. And that’s something we are proud of and committed to advancing further. Mental Health Awareness Week is a time not only to reflect on what challenges our mental health, but also on what protects it. A strong, kind, and inclusive community is one of the most powerful forms of protection we have. Let’s stand with those who face discrimination. Let’s call out abusive behaviour when we see it. And let’s continue to nurture communities, like those found in Naturism, where everyone can belong. Follow more on how Naturism can help our mental health on Instagram.
This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, with the theme for 2025 focusing on one of the most powerful tools for wellbeing: community. In the digital age, this connection increasingly plays out online. Around 85% of young people access online communities daily. Yet while these spaces can provide a sense of belonging and support, they can also expose users to harmful or disturbing content, something 68% of young people report encountering. Abuse and bullying online remain commonplace, and tackling that toxic behaviour must be a shared responsibility. As we reflect on the challenges to good mental health, it’s clear that genuine human connection is part of the solution. Whether online or in person, let’s commit to strengthening positive communities and refusing to contribute to negative or harmful ones. And if you're still searching for a place where you feel you truly belong, Naturism might be worth exploring.
Here's something a bit different! Try your hand at naked pottery with tuition in south west London on 1 June. There will be two sessions for two groups with time for socialising. We look forward to seeing the results! Find out more and book your tickets here!
This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is community — a powerful reminder that staying connected to others is essential for our wellbeing. Research consistently shows that people who feel more socially connected to family, friends, or their wider community are happier, physically healthier, and tend to live longer. For Naturists, this truth is already a key part of their lives. Surveys regularly show that the aspect they value most about Naturism isn’t necessarily the freedom of being clothes-free, it’s the sense of community. The bonds of friendship formed in Naturist settings can be deep, lasting, and profoundly supportive. In fact, many find that taking off their clothes soon becomes the least significant part of the journey. So this week, as we reflect on the importance of community for our mental health, let’s also consider new ways to build meaningful connections. And if you’ve never tried it, Naturism might just be one of them. Let’s strengthen our communities — together.

Ulika camping was the only Naturist site that we had not visited in mainland Croatia. There are still two on the islands that are on our list but they are quite a distance from us and logistically difficult for a short trip so they will have to wait a while longer, say BN members Ryan and Leela
Camping Ulika is run by Istra Camping and lies 8 km north of Porec on the Istrian coast. The camp is well laid out and well taken care of with nice and spacious marked pitches as well as a free-for-all area and a lovely mobile home area with its own small swimming pool. There are four restaurants, a supermarket, shops – including a good bakery and a hairdresser – to take care of all your basic needs, as well as plenty of old, but clean, sanitary blocks dotted around the site.
The camp gives off a very peaceful atmosphere but we stayed on a somewhat cool Easter weekend only a couple of days after opening so there was hardly anyone there and not all the facilities were open. We are sure there is a much different feel to the place in high season when it’s completely full.
After an easy check-in we found a wonderful pitch on this vast site overlooking the ocean, using the map given to us by the receptionist. And with the weather much better than forecast we were able to enjoy the sun for most of the day and take a short run before enjoying the afternoon and evening views from our pitch.
We woke early to blue skies and slightly less wind on Saturday and after an early morning run exploring the lovely nearby peninsula north of the site, and an equally lovely breakfast, we took a long walk around the whole camp to get a good feel for the place.
The sports facilities looked good but the €5 fee for a rather poor mini-golf – and the same price for the use of the table tennis tables – seemed excessive. The swimming pool looked great, but we felt a charge of €10 for a sun lounger for the day was an unnecessary expense. A positive was that the well-stocked supermarket prices were not too high and it was a bonus that we didn’t have to dress to shop there which can be an issue at some Naturist campsites.
On Sunday we took our bikes out for a great ride along the coastline paths to the Mirna Canal and back. In the little coastline villages and marinas we passed through, there were many options to stop for lunch or a beer along the way. The tracks were a little wet in places after the recent rains but mostly perfect for a good mountain bike and very scenic with ocean and countryside views.
Monday was spent around the van, walking around the camp, and just enjoying the warm spring weather. Something we have dearly missed over the winter months in Austria where we live.
Camping Ulika was definitely a place that we enjoyed and would re-visit. The camp out of season was relaxed and the facilities, although basic, were clean and working well. We enjoyed the openness of the camp and not having to dress or cover up to go in the bars during the day or the supermarket and reception. There are many running and cycling trails available nearby and enough space to find some peace. We did not like the extra charges for basic things that should be included in the already rather high price.
Now that nearby FKK Koversada has introduced mostly textile camping and taken thousands of Naturist pitches away, this is a place that will for sure only get more popular in the next years.
Happy Naturist travels!

Join host Helen Berriman, BN's Women's Officer, for a new episode of the podcast from British Naturism, dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in the Naturist community. Our podcast is created by women for women, although we warmly invite men to join us and listen as well.
In each episode, we delve into insightful conversations, exploring various aspects of Naturism through the lens of womens' experiences. Whether you are a seasoned Naturist, new to the way of life or just intrigued, we aim to educate and inspire. We highlight the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of women in Naturism. Promoting body acceptance and self love, we explore how women across the planet have shed their clothes and freed up their minds, leading them toward a more fulfilling life in all areas; one that no longer keeps them restricted - emotionally, mentally, physically, and in all other ways.
In this episode, we’re joined by Andee Rodgers from the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR). As an advocate for body positivity, self-acceptance, and social nudity, Andee shares her unique perspective on how naturism can empower women, challenge societal norms, and promote mental wellness. We dive into the misconceptions around nude recreation, the role of women in the Naturist movement, and how shedding clothes can sometimes mean reclaiming confidence and freedom.
Tune in for an open and honest conversation that just might shift the way you see yourself—and others.

This week’s highlights
Let’s hope the weather holds for the a beach day at St. Annes near Blackpool https://www.bn.org.uk/events/event/9514-st-annes-beach/
We love it when non-Naturist venues host their own skinny dips! Here’s one in Derbyshire next week
People will be jetting off to the BN supported LGTBQ group holiday to Fuerteventura next week too, are you among them?
Only a week or so before the Gathering, in Scotland, begins! Not too late to book. Aside from masses of activity and entertainment, who could turn down a naked visit to the village featured in the highly popular Outlander series?
Around ten years ago, after much searching for a suitable and available venue, British Naturism launched a central London swim. Not having had a nude swim in the world’s best capital had been disappointing and so we were delighted to get something going.
It was an instant hit and quickly became the most popular weekly swim in the country. As well as locals, swimmers came from all over the country and overseas, visiting the swim during their trips to London.
Sadly, the pool we used did not reopen after lockdown and a great event was lost.
…until now! We’re pleased to announce a new London Naked Swim – Sundays 8pm to 10pm at The Circle Gym and Spa, Queen Elizabeth Street, London, SE1 2JE. Thanks to all the members who have been on the trail of a new venue for making it happen.
Organiser, and BN member, Paul says: The Circle Gym and Spa, located near Tower Bridge and just a short 15-minute walk from London Bridge station, is opening their facilities to naturists.
This boutique, family-owned facility offers a welcoming, inclusive environment for all Naturists over the age of 18.
Whether you're a seasoned naturist or simply curious to try something new in a safe, respectful setting, you’ll get a wholehearted welcome from Paul and the team.
The club has a 17-metre indoor pool, with two lanes. One lane will be for swimming and the other for chats and relaxation. You’ll also have full access to the club’s steam room, sauna, and spa pool.
Admission is £20 per person, with payment accepted by card only on the door. As the event has a limited capacity, advance booking is required.
To secure your place or find out more, please email hello@thecirclegymandspa.co.uk and mention the Great British Skinny Dip in your message. The team will be happy to provide further details or answer any questions you may have.
Whether you're local or just visiting London, this weekly event is a refreshing new option in a central, well-connected location.
Thousands of people across the UK will strip off their clothes this summer and stroll around the grounds of gorgeous gardens, stately homes and castles to raise funds in partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
They’ll be taking part in British Naturism’s Naked Heart Walks, experiencing the exhilaration of being nude in the great outdoors, boosting their mental and physical health, reducing their stress - and having a lot of fun.
To make the decision to give a naked walk a try, the walks will be clothing-optional, though we’re sure some clothed walkers will be stripped off by the end!
An Ipsos poll commissioned by British Naturism in 2022, revealed (pun intended) that almost seven million Britons describe themselves as ‘Naturists’ or ‘Nudists’.
There are currently ten Naked Heart Walks, and tickets are on sale now:
Court Farm Lakes - Gloucestershire - Friday 16 May
Leonardslee Gardens - W. Sussex - Saturday 14 June
Himalayan Gardens - Yorkshire - Saturday 28 June
Cwm Weeg Gardens - Powys - Saturday 5 July
Water’s Edge, Bishampton - Worcester - Sunday 27 July
Himalayan Gardens - Yorkshire - Saturday 9 August
Dorothy Clive Gardens - Shropshire - Wednesday 13 August
Court Farm Lakes - Gloucestershire - Friday 15 August
Leonardslee Gardens - W. Sussex - Sunday 14 September
Powderham Castle - Devon - Saturday 27 September

And we’re not done yet! We’re asking people up and down the country to find more venues. Can’t see a walk in your neck of the woods? Suggest a venue! We’ll be happy to help.
Andrew Welch, National spokesman for British Naturism, said:
“Taboos around nudity are eroding and the health and well-being benefits of going naked are more widely understood, with more and more people wanting to get the exhilarating feelings for themselves. We encourage anyone to come and give it a go - and raise much needed funds for our charity partner, British Heart Foundation.
Ben Bishop, BHF Fundraising Manager, said:
"Joining a Naked Heart Walk is one of the more unusual ways of supporting the British Heart Foundation, but we’re delighted to see so many people taking the plunge at these events.
“This support has never been more needed. Every three minutes someone from the UK dies from heart and circulatory disease. The money swimmers raise will fund the research to discover new breakthroughs that can save and transform lives.”
We have people willing to be interviewed/photographed and stock photos for media use.
Media attendance at the walks is possible, with advance notice.

Celebrating its 10th year in 2025, the Great British Skinny Dip (GBSD) is proving that swimming without a costume isn’t just for Naturists - with new venues hosting events and attracting newcomers to this healthy and exhilarating way of taking a dip - and raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.
It reinforces what an Ipsos poll commissioned by British Naturism in 2022, revealed (pun intended): that almost 7 million Britons describe themselves as ‘Naturists’ or ‘Nudists’.
Even this early in the season, we already have over 500 skinny dips taking place. Visit the Great British Skinny Dip calendar to find them all.
At the top right of the listing you will see a button labelled ‘Distance’ - pop in your postcode and a radius and find all GBSDs near you!
In addition, on the 7th of June, we are endorsing the Great British Synchronised Skinny Dip, with a number of venues participating with the intention of recording a significant number of Britons swimming nude on the same day. It also gives venues yet to set a date an easy option to join in!
And we’re not done yet! We’re asking people up and down the country to find more venues. Can’t see a skinny dip in your neck of the woods? Host one! We’ll be happy to help get something off the ground.

“There are lots of ways to support the BHF and, thanks to British Naturism, these now include going for a skinny dip. We hope that thousands of people will take the plunge at one of the many events being held around the country. In doing so, they’ll be helping us fund scientists to discover the new treatments and cures that can save and improve lives.”
We have people willing to be interviewed/photographed and stock photos for media use.
Media attendance at the swims is possible, with advance notice.

Need something to give to a friend who wants to know more about Naturism? Want to ask a venue to host a skinny-dip? Trying to persuade a Naturist friend to join BN? Or to show work colleagues how much fun they are missing out on?
Our popular Guide to Naturism will help you. It's packed with information and images to show anyone just how amazing and active the world of clothes-free recreation is, how active British Naturism is - and inspire them to get involved.
Paper copies are available from the BN shop - no charge, nor postage - please make sure you always carry a bundle with you. There is also an online version making it easy for all of us to send a link to the guide in an email or text message.
