Not one, but two classes a week, led by Jooles (pictured) on Sunday at 7.30pm and Tuesday at 9.30am.
Jooles says, 'Pilates is aimed at strengthening your core and there are many different moves and stretches to help make this happen - it doesn't matter if you are a complete beginner or experienced, I'll help you to get something out of it. It all takes place on the floor and so you will need a mat. It's low intensity - no jumping or running around - and you'll be putting effort in, but it will be worth it!

A room has become available on the BN Members' Group Holiday to Gran Canaria in April close to the amazing dunes at Maspalomas (pictured)
If you would like to snap it up or find out more, you can find all the details here!
This year, our stand underwent a complete transformation, featuring our striking neon EveryBody sign against a leafy backdrop and live screens showcasing dynamic content rather than static images.
Simply being seen by so many people is an achievement in itself, but our engagement went far beyond that. Over the course of the week, we had around 2,100 meaningful conversations, distributed 1,000 full Guides to Naturism, and handed out 1,500 flyers for the 2025 Naturist Festivals. Many visitors were surprised to see Naturism represented but were intrigued, while others were already members stopping by to say hello. The most rewarding conversations were with those who had spoken to us last year, tried Naturism as a result, and returned to share their experiences, proof that our presence not only raises awareness but also inspires people to give Naturism a go.
Engaging directly with the public is one of the most effective ways to promote Naturism, and that’s exactly why we attend. We’ll be back next year!
Please note: only those events organised through BN are covered by BN’s insurance. Participants in other events should make their own enquiries regarding appropriate insurance cover for that event.

The plan is to have weekly swims every Tuesday evening once the season begins. In 2023 the Lido had a Naked Swim once a month; in 2024 it increased to two sessions a month and in 2025, following many requests from our naturist swimmers, it will be a weekly session.
The season opening, however, depends on vital improvements to the pool being completed in the coming months. Whilst Shaftesbury Council have agreed to the new filtration system and new pool liner being installed to keep the Lido running, they would like some outside funding to help with the huge costs.
The Friends of Shaftesbury Swimming, of which I am a committee member, have organised a Crowdfunding appeal to try and raise £15,000 to match a promised £15,000 from Sport England. We have less than a month to raise that total but got off to a great start yesterday with a fund-raising cold-water swimming event at the Lido.
Details of our Crowdfunding page are here https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/shaftesbury-lido-renovations If any of the Lido's regular naturist swimmers feel they could support the appeal, we would be extremely grateful for their help, either with a contribution or sharing the link to others who might be able to give support.
BN's SANER region are hosting not one, but two events: a boat trip around the Farne islands and a visit to the famous gardens in the grounds of Alnwick Castle. There will also be many activities at TANDO Naturist Club over the weekend.
Find all the details and book your places here!
Nottingham Sun Club, located in the historic Sherwood Forest, is accessed down private roads in the stunning grounds of Newstead Abbey Park. Many visitors have commented that NSC is one of the loveliest of all naturist clubs: Some have even said our grounds and position are unique. Newstead Abbey is the former home of Lord Byron, who was once described as “Mad, bad and dangerous to know”. Things have changed since the 1800s.
Historically, we can trace our roots back to1939 when Percy Wilford rented five acres of bracken covered land, including a chalet aptly named ‘Wood Nook’. Adjoining this land another five acres were rented by the newly formed Society. The birth of the Society on their rented ground was 19 April 1939, with the current entity being formed in 1946. Percy seems to have been something of an evangelist for Naturism. We believe he started four clubs in and around the Midlands area. After a while he found it too much to cycle the 25 miles from his home in Newark to Ravenshead, and so started another club nearer home. That is what you call commitment! Some of our members still recall him, and an abiding memory is of him striding out of a chalet with a long beard, resplendent in long johns. I take no responsibility for the picture in your head right now!
The club was originally known as Nottingham Sun and Air Society. This was shortened to Nottingham Sun Club in the 1970s as it was thought to be too cumbersome. A grass area was cleared in front of the ‘new’ pavilion where netball and cricket were played. Two sand courts were constructed where tenequoits were played. The club was featured in the Summer 1941 edition of Sun Bathing Review. The article mentions “a well-run camp … and although there is an enormous amount of work still to be done, they have found themselves a very pleasant corner in Sherwood Forest and already made it comfortable and attractive”. It is interesting to hear that in the middle of wartime there was still the chance to enjoy naturism. The article also says, “The people themselves have that happy spirit of comradeship that always animates those who have shared the initial work and overcome the inevitable difficulties together.”
In 1946, the land owner decided to sell 50 acres of land which included that rented by the Society. The owner offered the Society five acres of land for £500. On a summer Sunday in 1948 the membership gathered in a chalet to vote on the formation of Tabramhill Estates Ltd. Present was a very embarrassed solicitor, dressed in pinstripe trousers and a black jacket, among a throng of nude bodies. What price a photograph of that event! The first construction on site was a corrugated iron pavilion lined with stained match boarding purchased second hand, which had previously stood in the yard of Shire Hall, Nottingham. This was of rather peculiar proportions, appearing to have been designed for the accommodation of giraffes rather than humans. In the middle stood a large cast iron stove and on winter evenings this would glow red hot from top to bottom.
The pavilion was moved from the old site to the new and work began on clearing the new site. Miniten came to the Club via a single lady member who had been on holiday at a club in the Isle of Wight, and who came back full of enthusiasm for this new game. The sand courts lasted many years until the Club was able to afford asphalt and concrete courts. In January 1960, we became the proud owners of a rusty Nissen hut, and the job of de-rusting and painting began. In May another arrival, a prefabricated building, was delivered and the shell erected by the members. A week after final completion a member came up on his own and lit the coke stove, went out for a drink leaving the draught door open; when he returned the roof lining around the chimney was nicely alight. Fortunately, with admirable foresight, the interior had been painted in fire resistant paint, and a fire extinguisher was at hand. The offending member left a note of apology and we never saw him again. Not a great start!
Nottingham Sun Club was one of the original signatories to the charter setting up the Central Council for British Naturism in 1964, although we cannot find documentary evidence to support this. The club has been a member of British Naturism in the past and was involved in many inter-club sports tournaments, as evidenced by a full trophy cabinet in the small pavilion.
An open-air swimming pool was installed in 1966. Not without incident! We began filling the pool from a small-bore water supply which just about trickled into the pool but greatly reduced the water pressure to our neighbours, including Newstead Abbey whose owners, Nottingham City Council, were not best pleased. Their storage tanks were emptying and we had to stop. As a consequence, the secretary was summoned to appear before the powers that be at the council offices and got his knuckles severely rapped. Whoops! The solution came from the local fire service, who were persuaded to fill the pool as a storage facility for water should any incident require it. Several firemen returned to the club, as guests, to swim and play volleyball. At least one fireman and his family became members.
The pool remained uncovered until 1997, when a half-domed steel and canvas structure was erected to provide swimming facilities for times when the sun wasn’t shining. Financing for this was by a very generous donation by a member. This was quite an ambitious project that was again undertaken by our ever-willing and able members. Block paved flooring was installed at the same time, and this now gives another covered area to enjoy in times when the sun shines but the outside temperate is too cool for naked comfort. It continues to be an asset for the club and is a great selling point for new members. Over the years since we have added two new pavilions, one large one small, inventively named the large pavilion and small pavilion. I guess the naming took a lot of discussion. The small pavilion includes a sauna, showers, lounge and kitchen area which we have redeveloped to bring up to current catering standards. In 2020 we found leaks from the pool so set about refurbishment, but subsequently found it was beyond repair so that a full rebuild was required. A mammoth task, again achieved solely by our members. This is a much-used facility by members and guests alike. Many members bring grandchildren for a fun splash about, others use it to improve their fitness with a regular swim or for a lazy cool down on hot days, when we get them!
On our camping fields we can accommodate visitors with tents, trailer tents, folding caravans (unfortunately not full size caravans) and motorhomes (max 8.5m on one part of the site and max 5.5m on another). Each pitch has a 6 amp electrical supply. We also have a (members run) trailer tent that is available for hire for visitors’ overnight stays. By design we have limited the cooking facilities in the trailer tent, with extensive cooking facilities available in our small pavilion kitchen. There is free use of our communal gas barbeques, one of which is reserved for vegetarian/vegan food.
We have 43 member-owned chalets, two camping fields, toilets and showers, a covered heated swimming pool, gym equipment, sauna, tennis and miniten courts, shuffleboard, volley ball and boules areas plus extensive lawns for sunbathing. Regular competitions are held which are always fun. When the weather is not kind the two heated pavilions provide indoor space to socialise in, with pool table, table tennis, many board games and darts board. Naked darts … what could possibly go wrong?
We hold numerous events throughout the year, all run by the members. These include meals, quizzes, discos and ceilidhs, breakfasts, coffee mornings and afternoon teas as well as many different themed evenings, both on and off site. An Indian Banquet, again all catered by members, is always a winner. Members are encouraged to invite friends and relations to come and join us for these events, when numbers allow.
Over the years we had had many members who brought individual skills and talents with which to entertain our members. A number of pantomimes and variety shows have been written, produced, directed and performed by these gifted people to the delight of members and visitors alike.
Locally we are ideally placed for visitors to discover Sherwood Forest and the famous Major Oak. Many stately homes including Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall and the peak district are an hour away, as is historic Lincoln, and of course Newstead Abbey is literally on the doorstep. The Abbey itself is set in extensive grounds which provide excellent walks, clothed unfortunately. The Abbey also hosts many events which members regularly attend such as ghost walks, outdoor theatre, musical evenings and weekend concerts.
Locally we are well served with supermarkets, pubs and restaurants, many within walking distance. All this, and only 10 miles from Nottingham, with amongst other attractions Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Hall – featured in a Batman movie as “Wayne Manor”.
We are looking to build on our history, developing and promoting our club, to meet the expectations of current and future naturists. In 2024 we took part in “The Great British Skinny Dip”, raising a significant amount of money for The British Heart Foundation.
To raise local awareness of our club an article recently appeared in a local newspaper, both promoting the club and extolling the virtues of Naturism and its health and welfare benefits. This exposure (pun intended), was followed by an excellent interview on Radio Nottingham with some of our members, with the reporter and the radio van coming to our site and broadcasting live.
We welcome new members and visitors to share our truly unique and tranquil space and become involved in, and write, the next chapter in our development. There is nothing that compares to enjoying naturism in the safety and privacy of a friendly, well run naturist club. From the moment you drive in through the gates you leave all your cares and your worries behind you. Spending your leisure time just lying in the sun reading, having a swim, playing tennis etc or just exploring the local area. What could be better!
Visit the Nottingham Sun Club website
Expected attendance is around 100,000 over the six days of the show and, as in previous years, we expect to be busy talking to people and handing out the BN Guide to Naturism to the thousands of visitors, and answering their questions about Naturism.
Maybe we'll see you there?
Please note: only those events organised through BN are covered by BN’s insurance. Participants in other events should make their own enquiries regarding appropriate insurance cover for that event.

It starts, “Corton Beach is not a Naturist beach”. Yes it is. The law – clarified a few years ago by British Naturism – says that no beach needs to be designated Naturist – we can use them all. But the sign gives the impression for those who are not absolutely clear that Naturism is lawful that it is not allowed here. The sign then refers to “Lewd behaviour”. It doesn’t say Naturism is lewd, but by having it in the very next sentence could suggest to many people there is a connection. Lewd behaviour and Naturism are two very different things. The sign finishes with “Causing an offence to others is a criminal offence and all cases will be reported to the police”. That is not accurate either. If it were the jails would be full of people charged with causing an offence by their clothing, the colour of their hair or their mere existence. The law is quite clear on what is needed to cause a criminal offence.
This matter was reported to BN who wrote to the Parish Council seeking a dialogue. This was firmly declined: “we will make progress when you use a different beach, and allow our parishioners to use ours without fear of what they may be confronted with”, but we were more surprised and concerned when they said, “we ask our villagers to video any persons they may see carrying out acts of indecency”. I’m not sure this is wise counsel from the council.
The topic was put on the BN Forum and we got an avalanche of replies – some were generic in expressing their displeasure with the sign and others offered expert advice on how to remove it, which we promptly followed up with the appropriate authority, the District Council – who, incidentally, are far more approachable and understanding of the legal situation.
The Parish Council sought the views of the community via their Facebook Page. Strangely, when a pro-Naturist opinion was posted it soon got removed – we have a selection of screen shots.
At the February meeting of the Parish Council two eloquent Naturists turned up to make our case. The local Police were there too and the Sergeant was armed with the College of Policing Guidelines (which BN helped write). It was made very clear the Parish were on thin ice with their sign especially in relation to discrimination.
How does this sit-com end? At the time of writing we are anticipating that the sign will be removed by the District Council; the Parish Council are reconsidering their position. But the twist is that rather than making Corton a No-Go area for Naturists (and it is one of the few Naturist beaches with relatively easy disabled access) it wouldn’t be surprising if all this extra publicity results in considerably more Naturists visiting the beach this year than ever before.

Well it is - and there are sessions coming up in February (update - sold out!) and March which we're sure you won't want to miss!
The relationship between the baths and the Naturist group that hire it hasn't always been easy even if the original idea of such a venue was to cleanse oneself completely (which means being naked, of course) and with threats of cancelled sessions and increased hire fees it's more important than ever that we support nude events, not only to keep them going but also to show the management that they would be foolish to let them go.
Find out more and book your place in the historic and unique venue!
Class leader Sarah, says' Ballet is a great physical activity to start as an adult, there's a lot of injury prevention involved and the learning curve starts off very shallow, giving your body lots of time to gain strength. It will work your body in a way that develops strong, elongated muscles, increased flexibility, better balance, excellent posture, and a whole new awareness of one’s body.
Even if you do not move as well or as easily as you’d like, you can likely benefit from the class. Ballet is a beautiful art form, a refined skill, dancers move with more grace and musicality than anyone in the room!
Sign up for Sarah's class via the BN shop

However, it brings a new challenge. We’re so busy, on so many fronts, that it becomes difficult to make sure everyone knows the breadth and depth of our activities, what they get out of it and how they can help us. It’s easy to miss important information, event announcements, campaigning successes, useful resources, calls for volunteers and more.
So if you need to get up to date, know that we communicate regularly. We have this website, a quarterly magazine, a weekly e-newsletter that even non-members can subscribe to, monthly regional newsletters for members, many social media accounts that you can follow, and our annual guide (look out for the 2025 edition, coming soon!). Members can log into the Members' Area and find a variety of things, including downloads, guides, image galleries, information and chat with other members on the topics of the day. There’s also this page which gives everyone a quick overview of what we’re up to - bet you find something you didn’t know about!
Incidentally, if you aren’t a member you can join online now, and get the benefits AND support our work. It’s a no-brainer
Here’s the deal! BN will provide you with FREE Emergency First Aid at Work training and you become a First Aid volunteer with BN for three years.
The course will be held on Saturday 29 March 2025 (9.30 for 10.00am to 5.00pm) at the Ashdene Naturist Club, which is located midway between Halifax and Huddersfield with easy access from the M62 and A629.
Participants will be able to make use of the club’s facilities prior to and after the course. These include covered heated swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, pavilion and bar. Overnight accommodation is also available for those who wish to stay onsite at their own expense.
The course is being organised by British Naturism in partnership with 4Minutes First Aid Training, who will provide an Emergency First Aid at Work course, with first aid manual and e-certificate, valid for three years.
Closing date for bookings: 12:00 noon, 28 February 2025.
For further information on the course please see the Forum Post on the BN website or email me at john.gelder@bn.org.uk. To apply for the role of First Aider and the course please use this link.

Craig Dalton took over the farm in the 1980s - the house having been bought by his grandfather in the 1920s. Craig developed the gardens but as it became more difficult to make money out of agriculture, he sold the farm in 2000, enabling him to indulge in what he had always wanted to do, which was to spend more time on the gardens. He began to make changes, starting with the Italian garden, and built the Temple Garden, introducing an all-white theme. He planted an entire bank of hydrangeas, known as mini-Cornwall.
During the Naturist visits Craig would often stand by the entrance and spend time with visitors telling them about the garden and his plans for the future. Sadly, and unexpectedly, he passed away in 2015 leaving behind his wife Nicky and seven-month old daughter. Although Nicky is a teacher by profession, and would be the first to admit that she knows little about gardening, she continued to open the garden to the public as before. This included our annual Naturist visit, when she would also welcome Naturists to the gardens as well as serving them with tea, coffee and cakes. Over the years she got to know people, and knew who was a regular visitor and who was a newbie.
The events would normally take place in June, July, or August. There were concerns that the July 2020 event would not go ahead when lockdown was announced, but fortunately restrictions were lifted in time. As this was the first opportunity for Naturists to meet face to face that summer, it was very well attended, and many met up with friends they had made at the various online events that BN had introduced. In fact it was so successful that a second visit was arranged in August. Since 2020 there have been two visits each summer rather than one as in previous years.
Nicky was finding it harder to maintain the gardens as well as hold a full-time job so in 2023 she decided to put Burrows Gardens up for sale. Two successful visits took place in 2023 but many of us wondered if these would be the last to take place before a new owner took over.
Andrew Calow had been the Regional Coordinator and the organiser of a number of the previous visits, and later in 2023 decided to pop in to visit Nicky. However, she had sold up by then. He spoke to new owner Anthony about his plans for the gardens and whether he would consider continuing the Naturist visits. At the time Anthony was unsure of his plans but didn’t rule out the idea and I followed up in 2024. After meeting him with BN colleagues on a dark night in February, three visits for the summer were confirmed!
That June, Anthony enlisted the help of Michelle, who worked in the local pub, as well as his parents, to help with serving hot drinks and excellent cakes. The weather was not brilliant with a cool wind and the occasional spots of rain. Nevertheless 64 people attended, with 47 in slightly better weather in July. In August, 75 of us enjoyed the best weather of the three visits with sunshine and a warm breeze which meant people were able to sunbathe on the lawns and most stayed until the end of the afternoon.
As part of the publicity for the 2024 events, I decided to refer to six of the challenges within Challenge 60 which could be accomplished during the visit: play a game of miniten, attend a naked visit to a garden, attend a naked picnic with others, sunbathe naked in someone else's garden for the first time, be photographed next to a nude statue in a garden, and tell others about your participation in the BN 60th Challenge. Many accepted the challenges, and even posted their photos. The photo next to a nude statue was particularly popular. An extra one became possible on the day - pose naked for a Naturist photography session. People were keen to participate.
The gardens are centrally situated and localish guests come from across the East and West Midlands, nearby Yorkshire, and Lancashire. Some come from further afield – from London and the South East, and even from Scotland.
Returning visitors have found the welcome to be warm and appreciate the opportunity to come back to a familiar place. New visitors have enjoyed the opportunity to be naked in beautiful surroundings and many have vowed to return. We all appreciate the efforts of Craig for creating the lovely gardens and for welcoming naked people into his pride and joy; for Nicky for continuing with the garden visits and being such a welcoming host; and now to Anthony and his team for agreeing to host these events and continuing with the welcoming approach.
The best news is that there are two visits for 2025 - 14th June and 30th August. Booking is now open!
Our team of BN Photographers will lead the shoot. There are a variety of props, materials and accessories available that you can have fun with too.

In each episode, we delve into insightful conversations, exploring various aspects of Naturism through the lens of womens' experiences. Whether you are a seasoned Naturist, new to the way of life or just intrigued, we aim to educate and inspire. We highlight the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of women in Naturism. Promoting body acceptance and self love, we explore how women across the planet have shed their clothes and freed up their minds, leading them toward a more fulfilling life in all areas; one that no longer keeps them restricted - emotionally, mentally, physically, and in all other ways.
In this enlightening episode of Women in Focus, out on Saturday 1 February, host Helen Berriman speaks with Sarah Tayler, a transgender woman and proud member of British Naturism. Sarah shares her powerful journey of self-discovery, from realising she was in the wrong body as a child to completing her transition in just one year.
Contrary to societal misconceptions, being nude as a transgender woman in a naturist space can be an empowering experience—helping to overcome body confidence issues. As Sarah shares, naturism offers a safe and supportive environment where every body is celebrated, allowing transgender women like her to find solace and confidence in their own skin.
This episode is the first of a two-part interview, where Sarah and Helen explore themes of transphobia, gymnophobia, and much more. Tune in to hear Sarah's inspiring story, and look out for part two in the next episode.

Their newsletter - Focus - is published every two months and provides an update as to what’s going on in the INF and beyond.
The February edition of Focus has as its headline, news that the INF-FNI Naturist Youth Gathering will be taking place in the UK near Bournemouth, 24-27 May 2025, in conjunction with British Naturism's (BN) own youth event, NKD. There is also a report on how INF-FNI is leading a global coalition against social media body shaming.
In other articles, the naturist association of Thailand (NATCON) describes a four-day celebration of Naturism and wellbeing at their annual gathering at Purimas Beach Resort in Rayong 1-4 May 2025. There is also a report from the South African Naturist Association (SANNA) about the beautiful Naturist-friendly Mpenjati Beach. Finally, there is a round-up of all the 2025 INF-FNI sponsored activities, including Beach Volleyball in Paris (19 April), Naturist Games Without Borders in Montenegro (24-29 June), Sports and Activity Days in Germany (27 July- 8 August), and the International Naturist Swimming Championship in Barcelona (31 October - 2 November).

Tony takes up the role with outstanding credentials as a long-standing Naturist, former city councillor and volunteer and event organiser, meaning that he has exactly the right skills to take the region forward for the next phase.
In the absence of a regular committee in the LASER region to make the appointment, various people in the region were consulted and expressed resounding support for this new appointment. LASER is both the region with the smallest geographical area and largest number of members, meaning that its potential is almost limitless. Tony will be looking to build a team around him, including the recruitment of a deputy, so if you are interested in volunteering in the LASER region please get in touch with him.
Meanwhile, I’m sure you will all join me in welcoming Tony to the role and wishing him luck.
There is also limited space for camping in one-person tents in the grounds of the hostel. In addition, we have use of the signal box B&B located at Corrour station.
The remote location of the hostel means that we can be naked throughout the building and the grounds. The hostel also has direct access to Loch Ossian for swimming, and we have also been able to walk naked direct from the hostel in previous years
Find out how to book your place!
The theme for the weekend was “Music Legends,” featuring tributes to some of the greatest artists who are no longer with us: Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and, of course, the King himself, Elvis Presley.
During the day, the event offered a mix of classic favourites and exciting new activities. Guests enjoyed the ever-popular squash tournament, spa, bingo, and craft sessions, while new highlights included gong bath meditations running throughout the weekend, “Play Your Cards Right,” and a horse racing afternoon where attendees placed wagers on comedy races streamed on big screens.
But it was the evenings where things really took off, quite literally. The headlining acts delivered performances that were simply unforgettable. This was one of the best lineups I have seen at a British Naturism event, not only because of the performers’ incredible talent but also because of the way they embraced the unique environment and audience.
“Tina Turner” and her backup dancers, in particular, experienced what can only be described as a life-changing event. After facing various obstacles and setbacks leading up to their performance, they arrived almost on the brink of tears. Yet, the warm welcome and overwhelming positivity from the Naturist community inspired them to not only deliver a stellar performance but also to completely transform their perspective. By the end of their set, they were dancing naked on stage, fully immersed in the philosophy of the weekend.
And the transformative moments didn’t stop there. “Elvis” left the building the following night with plans to visit Naturist beaches as soon as the good weather returns, motivated by the uplifting attitude of the community. Furthermore, the hotel staff, all of whom were new to the event, couldn’t resist the atmosphere and were dancing naked on the front desk, as the infectious energy of Naturism swept all before it.
If you missed out this year, you truly missed something special. The Bournemouth Weekender perfectly showcased why what we do as Naturists is so important. Events like this aren’t just fun and a chance to escape the everyday; they’re transformative. They inspire people to step out of their comfort zones, shed inhibitions (and clothes), and discover a newfound joy and confidence.
This weekend, we saw countless individuals who had never even considered trying Naturism take the plunge and come away with brighter, more open outlooks. Together, we made their lives a little lighter, a little freer, and a whole lot more joyful. And that is why Naturism really matters.
Mark your calendars for next year’s Bournemouth Weekender. Trust us, you won’t want to miss it.
