Location and the Beach

Extract from "The World's Best Nude Beaches and Resorts", published in 2007 and provided by Nick Mayhew-Smith:

Do not be put off by the grim approach to this beach. Although it is next to commercial and industrial warehouses, users describe the beach as very pleasant, not least because it is screened from the docks by a high retaining wall. It’s a pebble shore, so take a roll mat. Sand is revealed at low tide and the swimming in calm weather is good. There are no facilities but Shoreham seafront is a 15-minute walk away. Many naturists prefer Shoreham to the very public Brighton nude beach nearby. Some nude sunbathing takes place on the very quiet and mostly textile section of beach to the east of the traditional naturist area, beyond the large groyne made of boulders.

Directions

From the centre of Brighton, travel west along the seafront to Hove along the A259. Look for the windsurfing school and the lagoons (on your left) where you need to filter in the left lane off the main road beside some traffic lights, which takes you into Wharf Road. After a couple of hundred metres turn left at the mini roundabout. Keep going as the road doglegs and snakes toward the dock area. A high concrete sea defence wall on the left marks the naturist area: walk along the pebbles from either end. There are 50 parking bays at the west end of the lorry park, but don’t obstruct the commercial areas.

We went on a reconnaissance mission here today - really hard to figure out from the above description exactly where the traditional naturist zone is, but the whole length of the beach along Basin Road South was infested with textiles, mostly families. Can any locals confirm if naturism is still practised here?

You may have better responses posting on the main forum, as these parts aren't routinely checked.  I've never been but welcome updates. X

You can access the beach at the Hove end, it's essentially up a bank, shouldn't be hard to spot.

By car, you'll need to travel along Basin Road, quite a way, passed some lorry parking, to where there are just a few car parking (charged!). You can access the section of beach mainly used by naturists from there.

But be aware, it's a couple of scrambles/jumps up/down about 3 foot walls onto the beach.

Its a far, far, quieter beach than the main Brighton one - sadly not lacking the occasional pervy man playing with himself.. a good shouting at and take their photo sends them scampering, limply, away.

My partner and I went there in early September 2024.  It was our first public nude outing.  When I finally persuaded her to finally lose her knickers she really love the experience, so I think she is converted, I'm now looking for warm foreign locations (suggestions welcome please).

The comment about stepping down from the (chargeable) parking area to the beach is slightly tricky as there is a lot of sharp and rusty steel supporting the bank, but it's easy with a bit of care.  PS the parking wardens DO check.  I actually got a ticket as I couldn't get a signal for the parking app and took a chance (no card machine!)

I could see it might be busy in warmer weather but we will give it a go and finish for lunch at 'The Rockwater' in Hove.  Highly recommend, google it!
