  1. Well, what a couple of years I’ve had! Pre-pandemic, I was an overweight, middle aged Retail Manager, vehemently against my husband's Naturism. The arrival of Covid into all of our lives had quite the impact on mine. During the first lockdown I was at home, having been furloughed and began cooking healthy meals and the weight began to drop off. The weather was glorious and feeling a little more confident, I bought a bikini and THAT was the start. Fast forward 20 months, I quit the nine-to-five a
  2. BN is surprised by the many reports in the media today of a senior RAF officer being investigated by police and suspended by the military for being naked in a paddock at his home. The reports contain no suggestion that there was any sexual element or intent to cause alarm or distress, and the facts as reported give no reason to suppose a police investigation was warranted. We’ve said it before (It is perfectly legal to be naked in your garden - About BN - British Naturism) and we’ll sa
  3. So yesterday was not my average Friday! Mark Bass (BN President) and I, headed to London to sit on the This Morning sofa and talk Naturism.  Following on from Mark's recent article on hate crime we were asked by This Morning to join them for an interview and phew..... it went really well! Eamonn Holmes and Rochelle Humes were great at interviewing us and took it seriously - interviews can often go one way or the other! We covered hate crime, respect and also body positivity and how Nat
  4. As I write this article, I have been a Naturist for just two months. However, it has been a life transforming two months and what follows is the story of how in just a few short weeks Naturism has taken me on a journey from absolutely hating my own body to the point of not even looking at myself in the mirror getting out of the bath, to feeling completely accepting of myself, lumps, bumps, wobbly bits, and all. In January I went on a date with a lovely man called Peter, w
  5. BN member Neil has bought a bar in Macclesfield, Cheshire and is hosting the first of a monthly series of Naturist bar nights this Saturday 19 April. Neil says, ‘This is an evening run for Naturists and clothed friends or partners. G&T is a quirky bar in Macclesfield that I have recently purchased with my friend Millie. We’re both excited to try and make this a regular safe space for naturists. Although primarily a cocktail, gin and wine bar; we also have plenty of bottled and canned be
  6. Dorset's Studland Bay, as most readers will know, hosts - amongst much else of interest - one of the best beaches for Naturists in the UK. British Naturism has always worked alongside the beach owners, The National Trust - in fact we are represented on the official beach user group.  In association with the Dorset Coast Forum, they have launched a survey for all those interested in the beach to provide feedback. We encourage as many Naturists as possible to complete it! Find it here, a
  7. Our friends at the French equivalent of British Naturism, Federation Français de Naturism (FFN) have launched a new campaign - #stopbodyshaming. We asked the FFN’s Eric Stafanu to tells us all about it...   BN: Can you give us an overview of the campaign? FFN: The main activity is a social media campaign with posters and photos talking about the diversity of bodies, acceptance of them and to advocate for nudity. We want to show that people should not be ashamed of their bodi
  8. Every year on the first Saturday in May, gardeners around the world are encouraged to shed their clothes and tend their gardens naked, just as nature intended. It’s for anyone who wants to experience a stronger bond with nature wherever you are. It is a great opportunity to show your neighbours just how liberating and life-affirming spending time in the fresh air can be. It isn’t an official British Naturism initiative but we are always happy to support projects that encourage people t
  9. You know that temperatures are soaring over Britain when at least one national newspaper prints a picture of a young woman sunbathing in her bra and pants during her lunch hour, taking advantage of the weather and adapting to her circumstances. Or perhaps she's using a modicum of common sense? When it's cold, it's intuitive - and socially acceptable - to keep putting on layers until you are warm enough. So, on days like today when it's sweltering and we are sweating in our clothes, feeling
  10. Regular readers will know of the ground-breaking work done by Dr Keon West of Goldsmith's University and how his research showed that being naked boosts self-esteem, happiness and life satisfaction. Last summer, with administrative assistance and some funding from British Naturism, Dr Keon hosted part II of the work and tested whether similar results could be achieved with people who weren't attending a specific nude event or gathering. The results have now been peer reviewed and publi
  11. BN member Neil and his friend Danielle made news recently when they visited a pub in Burnham au naturel. According to the report, some of their fellow diners were shocked and upset by the pair, and some allegedly gave negative TripAdvisor reviews (the veracity of several of which Neil questioned). Despite this, Neil said, he and Danielle felt warmly welcomed by the pub staff and other customers. Comments on local social media were generally positive and gave the two a chance to introduce th
  12. Following a successful pilot episode – for which some help from British Naturism was given - the survival competition series 'Naked, Alone, and Racing to Get Home' is back on E4 for a full series! It starts today at 9pm and a full box set will be available on All 4. Channel 4 are having a bit of a nude week, it seems... Over the course of six episodes, two pairs of amateur survivalists per episode will “venture through Britain’s harshest wilderness with only a map to guide them,” says the p
  13. So it's official! Today is #WorkNakedWednesday.... OK - so we made it up! But what an opportunity to give Naturism a try in the comfort of your new workplace - at home! It's perfectly legal to enjoy the sun in your garden too.   Give your birthday suit an airing  We've all got a body under our clothes - it's nothing to be ashamed of. You're probably not bothering to get fully dressed, if at all, these days, so if you've never tried it, take that extra step today.
  14. We’re always delighted to see new places for nude recreation and to help them to get off the ground. Here’s what Victoria of London’s SweHeat Sauna told us... SweHeat Sauna is nestled among an underground Arts and Culture movement in the industrial backwaters of Canning Town, East London. Our site situated behind the well established New Docklands Steam Baths and adding a little something extra to the bathhouse culture that has survived and is still thriving in this area.  We have a 12
  15. Springwood Sun Club, near Colchester, has many walkers pass by our entrance gate, mostly from the local village (writes Janina Newman). So we put up a notice advertising an Open Day under the banner, “See what's inside a Naturist Club”. We also wrote a short article for the village magazine and put a post on the village Facebook page. It was promoted as a local awareness day but the message soon spread further afield. We were delighted to receive 50 bookings (40 of whom turned up) so extended it
  16. BN members and recently-married couple Jooles and Ian Paillin-Dean are preparing to row the Atlantic as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge race. BN magazine caught up with them to find out more about it - and how you can help! For Jooles, water has, quite literally, always been part of her life. Her first time on a boat was in her parents arms at just five days old. Since that time she has predominantly lived either on it—both her parents own and, until very recently, lived on D
  17. Encouraging more women into Naturism and BN It is a fact that Naturism appeals more intuitively to men than women, though women are often more passionate about it and report a greater life-changing experience. Many women also state that they were introduced to Naturism by a husband or boyfriend and were hesitant, but now can't imagine life without it and believe it to be good for them and their children.   In these enlightened days of the 21st Century, it’s disappointing to see that w
  18. NakEdArt 3 is a  new body-positive show from NaKedArt collective, a diverse and international group which arose from life drawing and painting sessions at Leith School of Art, hosted by sculptor Marcin Krupa, taking place in Edinburgh from the 2nd to the 9th of November.  ...and we're delighted to say that at the collective's suggestion, on the morning of Sunday 3rd November, guests will be encouraged to visit the gallery without clothes! Visitors must reserve a place in advance.
  19. We try and keep the content of this website upbeat and bathed in sunshine - you can get your fix of grumbling and grey skies elsewhere, but here at BN we always have a smile on our faces. After all, Naturism is an exhilarating, uplifting and fun experience that makes you feel great! Sometimes we hear worthy, serious debates on the issues that face us, the challenges, stories of persecution, the law being misunderstood and we all know the trials of making people understand Naturism, but there is
  20. “Oh my goodness, there is a naked man coming towards us!” I looked towards my husband Philip and saw the biggest grin you can imagine. I can’t even blame him for turning up to our first naturist campsite, which happened to be the only one in Slovakia, as I had chosen it. I hadn’t realised until this point after 40 years of marriage, how much Philip had wanted to camp as a Naturist. So, as I wasn’t prepared to try to find another campsite, I bit the bullet and within 10 minutes I was walking nake
  21. Chalfont Holidays, the UK’s premier Naturist tour operator - and proud sponsors of British Naturism -  has new owners. With over 30 years’ experience within the travel industry, Chris Thelen has recently taken the helm at Chalfont. With an enviable reputation for bringing innovation and value to travel companies, it’s an exciting time as Chalfont Holidays looks at offering new resorts and holiday destinations to the Naturist community. Chris told British Naturism, ‘We’ve got bags of ex
  22. It might have turned a bit wintry, but the sun's bound to come back...here's an article from 2017 which is just as valid today - especially useful to know when you're stuck at home and wondering if you really are free to dress as you choose... In short - yes! During the heatwave, we’ve seen this question posed across the media and it’s a bit annoying to Naturists that there is even a suggestion that it might not be. The Sexual Offences Act 2003 was carefully worded to exclude Natu
  23. Naked sunbathing, positive body image, raising children with healthy attitudes to nudity...we couldn't have put it better ourselves... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8601689/ULRIKA-JONSSON-says-British-hung-baring-heatwave.html     Picture: Colin Brundle
  24. Here's something you don't see everyday - a mobile phone company in Iceland have released an advertisement shown on prime time TV featured full, uncensored nudity... The premise seems to be that their SmartWatch is all you need. We'd buy one!  There appear to be two versions - here's a longer one:
  25. BN's Sports Officer, Ian Munt reports World Naked Hiking Day (WNHD) takes place this year on June 21st, conveniently the Summer Solstice. It's an unofficial event in the same way as World Naked Gardening Day is, but encourages those who have not tried social nudity before to join in with groups of likeminded people to experience being naked in nature in a safe environment. More and more people are taking to walking without clothes. In the UK, we are fortunate that it is perfectly legal
