Fig Leaf Villas was founded in 2008 by Brits (and BN members) Quee and her then husband Cliff.  The area of Messini in the Peloponnese was chosen for the rich wealth of beaches, beautiful nature and easily accessed famous ancient sites, such as Olympia and Ancient Messini.  The exact location was chosen for its very gorgeous view of the sea and the Taygetos Mountains beyond, and for its rural setting that also allows easy access to all the best tavernas, beaches and places to go. A swimming
  2. The new educational television series, “Naked Education” debuts on Channel 4 this evening. This prime time, pre-watershed programme pushes people to confront their bodies.  We all have one, most of us are unhappy with it, but once you look past the social media filters you see enormous diversity in people’s bodies and that none of us are worthless. The programme also pushes people to embrace their own nudity, let go of their hang ups and discover the joy of just being alive. Those who pract
  3. Regular readers will know about this show, produced by BN member Richard. We Naturists might be ahead of the curve, but we love being entertained - especially when we can enjoy the show without clothes. Following performances in London, Richard is taking Boys in the Buff to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2023, with not one, but TWO clothing optional performances, on 15th and 22nd August. Q. What's it all about? A. Have you ever felt judged for not having the right body shape? Not ea
  4. Springwood Sun Club, near Colchester, has many walkers pass by our entrance gate, mostly from the local village (writes Janina Newman). So we put up a notice advertising an Open Day under the banner, “See what's inside a Naturist Club”. We also wrote a short article for the village magazine and put a post on the village Facebook page. It was promoted as a local awareness day but the message soon spread further afield. We were delighted to receive 50 bookings (40 of whom turned up) so extended it
  5. Many of you tuned in to last Monday’s The Forum Live to hear Victoria Bateman’s fascinating discussion of her new book, Naked Feminism. BN’s 100-strong welcoming audience gave Victoria a boost, she said, after a day in which Amazon Ads banned the book and she received unpleasant social media messages. Here’s what happened: Amazon Ads refused to advertise the book (though it was available to buy on the website). This prompted a tweet from Victoria: Amazon Ads have BANNED my new book #NakedFe
  6. It might be a publicity campaign aimed at selling more bras, but kudos to Marks & Spencer for celebrating the diversity of the nude body by using unexpurgated body casts. 7. The Guardian announced its 'Portraits of the Year' shortly after Christmas, and what do you know, there's a 'nudist' (their phrase, not mine) one included. It also features props to hide anything Great Aunt Maud might need the smelling salts for - also their choice, not ours. We can't reproduce the image owing to copyright issues but we've selected that we can use that features John and Donna who appear in the image and who took part in a feature in the late summer. Donna has previousl
  8. Here’s the sixth part of our article by BN member Sheila Maycock on Naturism and Mental Health. Read the previous articles on this website - Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four and Part Five The Value of Play Having fun is good for our Mental Health, in fact it’s so good for us it could almost be classified as a health intervention in its own right. Fun isn’t an activity, but an attitude and an emotion. Fun isn’t a waste of time. Many of our most treasured memories are of wh
  9. The International Naturist Federation, of which British Naturism is a member, is on a “distinctly positive course” after its biennial World Congress held in Luxembourg last week, according to British Naturism’s International Director, Edwin Kilby. The organisation, which marks its 70th anniversary next year, took a number of important decisions which will help it be more effective and visible. The anniversary will be celebrated at an event at Montalivet in France in September which will fea
  10. 'A full disclosure at the outset,' writes Brian Curragh: we love Arna and have been coming here since 2011. This trip was our sixth visit but the first after a gap of five years - so we were really keen to see what has changed. The good news is that the changes are all to the positive and the site

  11. Here’s the fifth part of our article by BN member Sheila Maycock on Naturism and Mental Health. Read the previous articles on this website - Part One, Part Two, Part Three and Part Four   Who am I? I am a Naturist. Four simple words, but what a plethora of meaning behind this, or indeed any statement about who I am. And Naturism is just one facet of our life that contributes to our psychological self-image or sense of self. Am I who I am because of nature or nurture, bec

  16. You know that temperatures are soaring over Britain when at least one national newspaper prints a picture of a young woman sunbathing in her bra and pants during her lunch hour, taking advantage of the weather and adapting to her circumstances. Or perhaps she's using a modicum of common sense? When it's cold, it's intuitive - and socially acceptable - to keep putting on layers until you are warm enough. So, on days like today when it's sweltering and we are sweating in our clothes, feeling
  17. Here’s the fourth part of our article by BN member Sheila Maycock on Naturism and Mental Health. Read the previous articles on this website - Part One, Part Two and Part Three As a newish Naturist I have been thinking about how and when I share my new found philosophy and lifestyle with non-Naturists and one of the main fears is ‘What will people think of me?’.  When I have told trusted family and friends, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, but with others might it be embar

More and more people are taking to walking without clothes. In the UK, we are fortunate that it is perfectly legal
  19. It's our first visit to Cumbria's Shap Lido tomorrow. It's the first of four Great British Skinny Dips at the venue this year - it's always fantastic when venues that we hire for the first time get the bug and make it a regular event! Find all the details on the Great British Skinny Dip website.
  20. Every year on the first Saturday in May, gardeners around the world are encouraged to shed their clothes and tend their gardens naked, just as nature intended. It’s for anyone who wants to experience a stronger bond with nature wherever you are. It is a great opportunity to show your neighbours just how liberating and life-affirming spending time in the fresh air can be. It isn’t an official British Naturism initiative but we are always happy to support projects that encourage people t

  22. BN members and recently-married couple Jooles and Ian Paillin-Dean are preparing to row the Atlantic as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge race. BN magazine caught up with them to find out more about it - and how you can help! For Jooles, water has, quite literally, always been part of her life. Her first time on a boat was in her parents arms at just five days old. Since that time she has predominantly lived either on it—both her parents own and, until very recently, lived on D
  23. At a time where there is such uncertainty and disharmony in the world, we celebrate International Women’s day.  An opportunity for women to stand up and demand equality and break the bias. Individually, we are responsible for our own behaviours but united we can start to make a change.  Women in Naturism are no different. A community of women who are passionate advocates for nudity and Naturism, we should have the right to choose to keep our clothes off without being subjected to our bodies bein
  24. BN member Phil Pool braved near-daily skinny dips in the teeth-chattering waters off Brighton through to New Year’s Eve to raise funds for the RNLI. BN caught up with him to find out how it went,’ writes BN ace reporter Dugie Eyton-Hughes. Phil started winter sea swimming in the autumn of 2020 and continued through 2021. As the cold months approached, he wanted to continue but “knowing how hard it had been, I knew I’d need something to motivate me.” That motivation came from hearing a
  25. BN is surprised by the many reports in the media today of a senior RAF officer being investigated by police and suspended by the military for being naked in a paddock at his home. The reports contain no suggestion that there was any sexual element or intent to cause alarm or distress, and the facts as reported give no reason to suppose a police investigation was warranted. We’ve said it before (It is perfectly legal to be naked in your garden - About BN - British Naturism) and we’ll sa
